What’s New?

We have a new Master of Ceremonies!

We are very happy to announce that we have Michael Bernier as the Master Of Ceremonies for the Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon & 5K this year.

Win a weekend getaway!

Thanks to our new sponsor — Vacasa — you can win a two night weekend getaway at one of three vacation homes.  All that you need to do is register and complete one of our races. Once the races are completed, all finishers* will be eligible to win a two night getaway at their choice of Maine, Massachusetts, or Florida locations managed by Vacasa. Two lucky finishers will be randomly chosen and will be provided with accommodations. To learn more about the three vacation spots, click HERE.

Our 2017 Finisher Medals:

The Half Marathon medal is the Old Port ship set in a clear translucent filler, with blue glitter in the filler.  Both medals have bottle openers, to assist in opening your ice cold Shipyard beer for the remainder of the Summer.

Hello Newman is back for 2017:

Nothing is better than great live music at the post race celebration.  We are very happy to have Hello Newman playing in the Amethyst Lot starting at 9:00 on race day!

Back in 2009, Hello Newman founding member Derek Johnson had a vision to create a band that played the music he grew up listening to on WCYY and MTV.

One Craigslist ad later, coupled with a fortuitous alignment of the planets, saw four visionaries get together for a rehearsal and the wondrous juggernaut of 90s alternative rock, ‘Hello Newman’ was born.

After their first ever audition to a sizeable audience, the band landed a weekly gig at Bull Feeney’s, Portland. This launched a residency at the bar that still lasts to this day. Since then, Hello Newman has gone from strength to strength playing gigs, weddings and parties from Maine to Rhode Island, and everywhere in between.

Hello Newman’s approach to music has always been to emulate the original recording as accurately as possible. This conscientious approach and attention to detail has won them a multitude of fans over the years.

Most importantly though, is the band’s commitment to ensuring that everybody attending a show has a great time. And that means lots of dancing. The set list has been honed to include all the songs you didn’t realize you needed in your life…until now.

Hello Newman are:

Jim Roberts (Guitar/Vocals)
Derek Johnson (Guitar/Vocals)
Carl Brunsdon (Bass/Sax/Vocals)
Andre Mercier (Drums/Vocals)
Clayton Colburn (Keys/Trumpet/Violin/Percussion/Vocals)
Harold James Mason (Trombone/Percussion)

Virtual Race Option:

You asked, we listened.  We are now offering a virtual Race Option, where runners can register for the Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon or 5k, and then run it without traveling to Portland.  Virtual Race runners will get the finisher medal and shirt that we have at the races in the Old Port.  Find out more details on our Virtual Race Option page.

Referral Program:

We have activated the RaceWire referral program.  When a runner registers, a unique promo code is emailed to the runner.  The runner gives this code to friends. After four friends list the code, the runner is eligible for a $20 refund and then $5 for each additional friend that lists it.  (Maximum refund equals the total amount spent for registration and merchandise purchased through our registration.)  Click HERE to get more details.

5K Finisher Medal:

Here is the medal that all 5K finishers will receive in 2017.  Although it is smaller than Half Marathon finisher medal, it does have a functional bottle opener!

Half Marathon finishers will receive a similar medal to these from 2016:
